Job Description

Events Director – Opening Team

Indienne New York | 515 W 38th Street, New York, NY

Chef Sujan Sarkar is bringing his Michelin-starred Indian tasting menu concept, Indienne , to New York City this spring. Alongside Indienne , we are opening two additional concepts— Elder and Apas —within the same culinary destination. We are seeking experienced, driven Front-of-House professionals to join our opening team and help bring this vision to life.

Position Overview

The Events Director is a salaried management role eligible for commission based on guest-facing event revenue. This position works closely with the culinary and service leadership teams and oversees private dining and events across all three restaurant concepts.

This is a hybrid role that combines event sales, planning, and execution with hands-on floor leadership. As part of an opening team, this individual will play a key role in building systems, processes, and guest experiences from the ground up.

While a developed client book is a plus, it is not required—we are equally focused on candidates with the ability to grow business and relationships within the role.

Role Summary

The Events Director is responsible for the full lifecycle of private dining events, from inquiry and sales through execution and post-event follow-up. This role also maintains an active presence on the floor during service to ensure seamless coordination between events and restaurant operations.

This position requires a highly organized, hospitality-driven professional who can balance sales strategy with operational excellence in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities

Event Sales & Planning

  • Manage all private dining inquiries from initial contact through post-event follow-up
  • Conduct site visits and build strong, long-term client relationships
  • Develop customized event proposals, contracts, and BEOs
  • Coordinate menus, beverage programs, room setups, and event timelines
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to grow private dining revenue

Event Execution & Operations

  • Oversee setup, service, and breakdown of all private events
  • Ensure alignment between event execution and operational standards
  • Clearly delegate responsibilities when not present on-site
  • Coordinate staffing needs for events and dining room operations
  • Ensure accurate and timely communication of all event details across departments
  • Manage event billing, deposits, and final payments
  • Maintain accuracy of all event documentation, calendars, and systems

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Work closely with FOH, BOH, and management teams to ensure seamless execution
  • Support and guide front-of-house teams during events and service
  • Lead pre-service meetings and communicate clear expectations
  • Provide ongoing training, coaching, and performance feedback
  • Maintain a strong, visible presence on the floor during service
  • Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and hospitality
  • Promote strong collaboration between culinary and service teams
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in private events or restaurant event management
  • 2+ years of restaurant dining room management experience
  • Proven ability to manage multiple events simultaneously with strong attention to detail
  • Strong understanding of BEOs, event planning, and cross-department coordination
  • Excellent communication and client relationship-building skills
  • Professional presence with a genuine passion for hospitality
  • Ability to remain composed under pressure and make decisive, guest-focused decisions
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
Why Join Us
  • Be part of a Michelin-caliber opening team shaping multiple concepts in New York City
  • Play a key role in building private dining systems from the ground up
  • Work directly with a highly respected culinary and hospitality leadership team
  • Opportunity to grow within a dynamic, expanding restaurant group
Physical Requirements

This role requires the ability to stand and move throughout the restaurant for extended periods (7–10 hours), as well as bend, reach, and perform physical tasks during service. Reasonable accommodations may be made as needed.

Additional Information
