Job Description

About the Company

The Hired Bar has partnered with a leading ag-tech company, Plenty, to identify a Head Grower to lead strawberry production within a highly advanced indoor vertical farming environment.

About the Role

As Head Grower, you will lead the strategic development and execution of our strawberry cultivation systems within our advanced indoor vertical farm. As a key leader in our farm management team, you will define the vision for consistent, high-quality plant production and drive the continuous improvement of our growing processes, systems, and team structure.

This is a senior leadership role requiring deep horticultural expertise, operational vision, and proven ability to lead people and scale processes in a complex, high-tech environment. You’ll be responsible for aligning Plenty’s crop production goals with business objectives, integrating innovation with reliability, and ensuring that our growing operations deliver top-tier results — safely, sustainably, and consistently.

What You’ll Do

  • Define and lead the long-term cultivation strategy for strawberry production
  • Optimize yield, quality, and consistency across indoor vertical farming systems
  • Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, R&D, Product, and Farm Operations
  • Influence farm design, system architecture, and technology selection
  • Leverage data and analytics to drive continuous improvement and performance
  • Lead and develop a high-performing growing team
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, IPM, and regulatory standards
  • Drive innovation in CEA systems, environmental controls, and crop modeling

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Plant Science, Horticulture, Agronomy, Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA), or a related field.
  • 8+ years in commercial-scale growing operations (greenhouse, vertical farming, or similar)
  • 5+ years of experience in people leadership roles, managing diverse and multidisciplinary teams in high-output operations.
  • Strong experience with hydroponics / controlled environment agriculture (CEA)
  • Proven ability to scale production while maintaining quality and consistency
  • Experience leading teams and building operational capability
  • Strong data mindset—comfortable using metrics, models, and analytics
  • Familiarity with food safety standards (HACCP, SQF, GMP/GAP)

Compensation range:

$175,000 – $250,000 base + 15% bonus ( Base salary commensurate with experience )
