Job Title: Legal Assistant (Part-Time)

Industry: Nonprofit / Professional Association

Location (City, State): Arlington, VA

Assignment Type: Contract-to-hire (evaluation at 90 days)

Pay: $32–$34/hour

Work Schedule:

Part-time, approximately 20 hours per week. Standard business hours (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM) with flexibility. Requires onsite presence 2 days per week.

Job Description:

This role provides administrative and operational support to the Legal Department, directly assisting senior legal leadership. The position involves a mix of coordination, document management, research, and executive support. It is a high-visibility role requiring discretion and strong organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and monitor legal team workflows, ensuring timely progress on projects and requests
  • Serve as a central point of contact for legal-related communications and documentation
  • Maintain organized records, tracking systems, and filing structures for legal materials
  • Assist with committee coordination, including scheduling meetings, preparing materials, and documenting outcomes
  • Draft, edit, and format correspondence, reports, and legal documentation
  • Conduct basic research and compile findings on assigned topics
  • Support contract administration processes using a contract management system
  • Track departmental expenses, budgets, and invoice processing
  • Manage calendar scheduling, travel coordination, and general administrative support for legal leadership
  • Assist with compliance-related processes and documentation tracking
  • Provide general support on special projects and departmental initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in administrative support, legal operations, or executive support
  • Exposure to contracts, document management, or legal processes preferred
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint); experience with contract management tools is a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Comfortable working a part-time schedule (up to 20 hours per week)

Additional Details:

  • Target start date: Early May
  • This role is structured as a 0.5 FTE (part-time equivalent)
  • Annualized salary equivalent: approximately $30,000–$50,000 depending on hours worked
  • Not eligible for overtime
