Art Teacher (Grades K–8)

About Mystic Valley Regional Charter School (MVRCS)

Founded in 1998, Mystic Valley Regional Charter School (MVRCS) is a high-performing public charter school serving more than 1,750 students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. Consistently ranked among the top public schools in Massachusetts, New England, and the nation, MVRCS is committed to academic excellence, high expectations, and a content-rich curriculum.

Located just outside of Boston, one of the nation's leading centers for higher education, arts, and culture, Mystic Valley provides students with a rigorous educational experience designed to prepare them for success in college and beyond.

Position Overview

Mystic Valley Regional Charter School seeks a creative, organized, and enthusiastic Art Teacher to provide instruction for students in Grades K–8. The Art Teacher is responsible for introducing students to the history, principles, and techniques of visual art while fostering creativity, artistic expression, and an appreciation for artistic achievement across cultures and time periods.

Instruction is aligned with the Core Knowledge Sequence and is designed to complement and reinforce concepts taught throughout the broader curriculum. The successful candidate will create engaging lessons that develop students' artistic skills while cultivating an understanding of the role of art in history and society.

This position requires a highly organized individual who is comfortable teaching in multiple classroom locations and managing art supplies and materials across several grade levels and buildings.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging visual arts instruction for students in Grades K–8.
  • Introduce students to a wide range of artistic styles, techniques, mediums, and historical periods.
  • Design projects that encourage creativity, artistic growth, and skill development.
  • Align instruction with the Core Knowledge curriculum and support interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback on artistic development and participation.
  • Maintain organized art materials, supplies, and instructional resources across multiple instructional locations.
  • Ensure that classrooms are left orderly and prepared for subsequent instruction.
  • Support smooth student transitions between classes and assist in maintaining an orderly school environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with classroom teachers, instructional assistants, and school leadership.
  • Communicate professionally with students, families, and colleagues regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
  • Attend faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and school events as required.
  • Provide extra academic support to students when needed.
  • Assist with school operations, including exam proctoring, lunch duty, recess supervision, and classroom coverage as assigned.
  • Support the mission, values, and academic standards of Mystic Valley Regional Charter School.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, Visual Arts, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of art history, artistic techniques, and visual arts instruction.
  • Excellent communication, classroom management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to engage students across a wide range of ages and developmental levels.
  • Ability to maintain high academic and behavioral expectations while fostering a positive and creative learning environment.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.

Preferred

  • Massachusetts teaching licensure in Visual Arts.
  • Experience teaching elementary and/or middle school students.
  • Familiarity with the Core Knowledge curriculum.
  • Experience integrating art history and cross-curricular content into visual arts instruction.

Working Environment

Because MVRCS does not maintain a dedicated art classroom, the Art Teacher travels between instructional spaces and grade levels throughout the school day. Success in this role requires exceptional organization, flexibility, and the ability to efficiently manage instructional materials and supplies across multiple locations.

Reporting Structure

This position reports to the Assistant Director and is subject to annual evaluation and reappointment.
