• Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (hours may fluctuate within this range based on workload; must be flexible with varying days and hours)

ROLE IMPACT
The Liability Claims Adjuster supports the City’s safety and loss control program by investigating, evaluating, and resolving third-party bodily injury and property damage claims. This role ensures fair, timely, and legally compliant claim outcomes while protecting public resources. Success is measured by thorough investigations, accurate liability determinations, effective negotiations, and complete documentation within the claims administration system.
• Investigate, analyze, and determine the extent of liability for accidents and incidents involving City property, vehicles, or personnel resulting in third-party bodily injury or property damage
• Interview employees, agents, witnesses, and claimants; collect and evaluate evidence including statements, medical reports, repair estimates, photographs, and diagrams
• Assess liability under Texas tort, liability, and transportation laws; determine appropriate claim outcomes based on facts and applicable regulations
• Negotiate and prepare settlements using medical documentation, billing records, and damage estimates; deny claims when evidence does not substantiate liability
• Process claims in an electronic claims management system, ensuring timely documentation and accurate payment processing to vendors and claimants
Minimum Qualifications
• Texas Casualty Adjuster License or Texas All-Lines Adjuster License (required) and High School Diploma or GED
• 3–5 years of experience as a claims examiner or adjuster handling auto or commercial casualty claims
• Demonstrated experience evaluating and negotiating bodily injury claims, including working with attorneys and claimants
• Computer-based work in an office environment
• Use of electronic claims administration systems and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Frequent communication via phone and email with claimants, attorneys, vendors, and internal stakeholders
Preferred Skills
• Bilingual or ability to speak a second language
• Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and documentation skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
